Paul Smith & Terry Kyan

Biography

With Terry, they began co-writing Not the Nine O'Clock News (1979/1980) and Alas Smith and Jones (later Smith & Jones) during the 1980s both for BBC2. They had written for Hello Mum in 1987. The duo then got their first sitcom off the ground, Colin's Sandwich, which ran for two series. They co-wrote an episode of the Maureen Lipman vehicle, About Face, in 1989 for ITV before penning their second sitcom for BBC1, Bonjour La Classe (1993), about an idealistic inneffective new teacher, played by Nigel Planer, at a private school. Since then the two have contributed to two other sitcoms, Brittas Empire (BBC1) and the episodes, The Girl from Ipanema (1991) and Lady Luck (1994), for Murder Most Horrid (BBC2).

Biography

Paul had written Theatre 625: Esther's Altar in 1965 and the episodes, Girl Friday (1996) and Going Solo (1999) for Murder Most Horrid.

Recently

In December 2002 BBC1 aired Bootleg, a family tea-time mini-series which Paul had adapted from the book by Alex Shearer.
